Sunscreen: many of those offered by the cosmetic industry are harmful to the user’s health. It’s great to know that there are natural oils and minerals that can safely give you sun tan!
A natural organic sunscreen can be as effective as the top advertised brands but without the toxic ingredients.
Using natural resources to protect the skin is especially recommended for people with sensitive skin or suffering from allergies, including children.
When preparing a natural sunscreen, it is recommended to mix vegetable oils and butters with natural minerals (zinc oxide, titanium dioxide or seaweed extract – Helioguardom 365). Oil generally protects against UVB rays, which cause sunburn, while minerals filters UVA radiation, which causes skin aging and affects pigmentation.
Raspberry seed oil as sunscreen
Raspberry seed oil has the highest natural protective factor, ranging from 28 to 50, depending on the growing conditions. It can be used independently or as a supplemental blend. It has strong anti-inflammatory properties and is very suitable for skins types that are prone to irritation, rashes, eczema and lesions.
Hazelnut oil as sunscreen
Hazelnut oil is a popular addition to natural beauty products. It is considered as a good protection from the sun because it protects against both UVA and UVB radiation. Hazelnut oil is absorbed quickly and prevents photo-ageing and other adverse impact. It is suitable for mixed and dry skin. It may be used alone or in mixtures. Estimated natural SPF ranges between 10 and 30.
Carrot seed oil as sunscreen
Carrot seed oil improves the general condition of the skin and gives it elasticity. At the same time, it works against various skin problems like eczema, psoriasis, ulcers, and vesicles. It also prevents wrinkle and age spots. Estimated natural SFP ranges from 38 to 40.
Wheat germ oil as sunscreen
Wheat germ oil is a rich source of vitamin E, which makes it excellent for skin care. Particularly suitable for dry skin, it is recommended to prevent the signs of ageing, regenerate the skin and heal irritations. It can be used in pure or blended form. It should be avoided if you are prone to wheat allergies. Estimated natural SFP is around 20.
Soybean oil as sunscreen
Soybean oil evens out complexion and prevents wrinkles. It is also rich in vitamin E and is quickly absorbed. This oil has an SPF 10. It can also be used as a mosquito repellent.
Because of their lower SFP, these oils can be used in the preparation of a mixture of skin protection.
Macadamia oil SFP 6
Jojoba oil SFP 4
Sesame oil SFP 2-4
Shea butter SFP 3-6
Coconut oil SFP 2-8
Olive oil SFP 2-8
Castor oil SFP 6
Almond oil SFP 5.
Minerals protects you against UVA radiation and are an essential ingredients for effective sunscreen.
Zinc oxide is a natural mineral that effectively protects against UVA radiations. In combination with oils, it provides protection from the entire spectrum of solar radiations. It is sometimes used in addition to sunscreen products or children’s skin care and soothing lotion. It has antiseptic and antifungal properties and is used as a natural preservative in many skin care preparations.
Titanium dioxide is often combined with Zinc oxide and used in cosmetics. The recommended concentration is around 5%.
Helioguard 365 is an extract of red algae Porphyria umbilicalis, which serves as a natural UVA filter in a sunscreen preparation.
It is suitable for everyday use and protects the skin from premature ageing. The recommended concentration is from 1 to 5%.
Skin protection begins on the plate. No sunscreen or cosmetic preparation will ever protect your skin as proper nutrition.
The most important are food rich in carotenoids, which prepare the skin for the sun; and Vitamin C that protects and restores the skin. Daily consumption of fruits and vegetables rich in these two components will protect your skin from UV rays, encourage regeneration and reduce the possibility of allergic reactions.
Black and green tea
Food containing carotenoids (carrots, peach, mango, apricot, papaya, sweet potatoes, beets, etc)
Food containing lycopene (watermelon, tomatoes, red peppers, red grapefruits, pomegranate, broccoli, green leafy vegetables)
Food containing tocotrienol (barley, rye, oats)
Food containing Vitamins C (citrus, berries, pomegranate, acerola)
Food containing omega 3 (Fish and krill oil, flaxseed oil) and
½ cup of almond oil
½ cup of coconut oil
¼ cup natural beeswax
2 tablespoons Zinc oxide
2 tablespoons of Shea butter
Essential oil or vanilla extract for the perfume of your choice (just a few drops).
Using low temperature, melt the oil, butter and wax. Remove and allow to cool, then add the Zinc oxide, avoiding inhaling it in the process. Stir the mixture until it becomes smooth. Try it on a small part of your skin to test whether or not you are allergic to it. Use your natural sunscreen within 6 months.
Other sunscreen recipe:
½ cup of pure aloe vera gel
20 drops of carrot seed oil
5 tbsp wheat germ oil and hemp oil
5 drops of lavender essential oil.
Mix everything and shake well before use.
For a good and efficient sunscreen, make sure you buy unrefined, cold pressed oils from trusted manufacturers.
Diluting the oils reduce their SPF protection and you may combine several oils to obtain a more effective preparation.
Prevention is better than any sunscreen protection. Avoid exposure to sunlight between 12 and 5 PM and wear protective clothing, hat and good sunglasses.
