How many times have you thought of opting for an exercise regimen the moment your lower back pain affects your daily activities? Innumerable times by now? Am I right? But the moment the pain subsides you have put your plans for exercising in the back burner, isn’t it? Time and again your friends have told you to opt for the relevant exercises so that your pain gets healed, right? As a victim of lower back pain, I know how badly this ailment affects your daily chores. Forget about the daily activities, it gets difficult to even sit or walk properly. Over the years I have opted for different kinds of exercises that have helped me to keep the pain under control, if not eliminate it completely.

The Following are some of the exercises that you can easily try out:

  •    Core Strength Exercises: Most of the physical therapies are aimed at minimizing the lower back pain for a prolonged period of time.
  •    Stretching: As you are a victim of lower back pain, opt for all those stretching exercises that target the abdominal muscles, lower back muscles, as well as your hips and legs. Speak to your physical therapist about this and make sure that all the exercises proceed in a slow gradual manner so that you don’t suffer from an abrupt muscle spasm or nerve irritation.
  •  Sit-ups, crunches, abdominal machines and leg raises are popular as they aim to strengthen the abdominal muscles and low back muscles in order to provide the required comfort.
  • Dynamic stabilization exercises: in this kind of exercise, the use of exercise balls and balancing machines are promoted so as to ensure the stabilizing factor. These exercises ensure that the various ranges of motion help to strengthen the secondary muscle of the spine so that the pain is healed.
  •  Lower back exercises: as you are suffering from lower back pain, this exercise aims to bring a balance by emphasizing on exercises where the individual needs to slowly raise the chest off the ground.

Opt for the so called ‘good morning’ exercises. Here you need to stand with your legs straight while your shoulders are wide apart. Place a weighted bar or a broomstick on your shoulder when you bend down. Very similar to the “touching your toes” exercise, the only difference is you are using a weight on your shoulder in this exercise.

There are many physical therapy centres that also offer aquatic physical therapies. Here,  the water plays an important role. As the water supports the body, it helps the individual to fight against the gravitational pull and perform different types of exercises which was otherwise not possible either because the individual is disabled or because of their old age.

In addition to the different exercises, one also needs to concentrate on the physical therapist that will be treating them. Make sure that the therapist is a certified professional with several years of experience so that he can guide and assist you in the best possible manner.
