Figure out how to Turbocharge your very best workouts: Today at the gym, I was absolutely delighted as I had just done a personal best on an exercise and it got me thinking to write this blog on tracking your workouts for constant improvement.
Too many people do one of these when they go to the gym, thinking this is as best workout they can get:
– Make up best workouts on the spot when they walk in
– Repeat the same best workouts with the same weights and wonder why they are not getting expected improvements
– Train for hours and hours doing every exercise known to man
– Work arms and abs every session.
To explain about me a bit more, I train in the gym 4 x a week, working on a split routine of different muscles so over the week, I have targeted the whole body. Best workouts are the one you ensure muscle balance in the body. This may not work for everyone but it is what works for me.
I make a note of my exercises, reps, sets and weights each session so when I turn up for my best workouts, I know exactly what I am doing and my goals for the 45min to 1 hour session.
Today was leg day and I was doing straight leg deadlifts and got a PB of 85kg doing 6 sets of 10 reps, which I was over the moon with.
Now, because I note down each session like what weight I have done normally, adding a little arrow indicating where I should improve next time, I know I can push further, then increase my strength.
If you want to see improvements in strength and fitness in general, always keep a note on how you are performing whether you are lifting weights, speeding on a treadmill, or performing pull ups.
Your best workouts over the whole week are a lot to remember so taking a pencil and paper in the gym isn’t difficult. I guarantee you will notice a difference. You want to make sure you are always improving so making a little note each session can go a long way to enhancing your fitness. Also, tracking your best workouts will keep you motivated as you become more aware of your improvements.
If you do not want to carry a pen and pad around, there is a good free app you can download called easy gym log and you can then note your times, weights during a session whilst still listening to your music on your phone.
I now know after another 1 or 2 sessions, I will be able to push the deadlift onto the next weight and should continue seeing improvements. My best workouts get simply better every time.
Stay healthy and decide which best workouts are good for you!
