Billions of people worldwide love McDonald’s chicken nugget! Why not when it’s crispy, tasty and easy to buy? However, what many of us don’t know is that in every bite of this chicken nugget, we deduct one mark out of our lifeline. It is interesting why many consumers enjoy cheap buys, but aren’t asking how these cheap products are made. Surely, there’s a catch to deals that are seemingly too good to be true.
Chicken nuggets are one of the many food products you can buy at McDonalds. An individual serving of 6 pieces of McNuggets cost £2.69 in the UK, which is ridiculously cheap for a real chicken. The problem though is that the nuggets may not be purely chicken breast and the process it has gone through to become the nuggets we munch is incredibly horrendous!

This is what raw chicken nuggets look like.
Most fast food chains, especially the big ones like McDonald’s, use a mechanical machine to process meat-based ingredients like patties and nuggets. But, if you are thinking of a machine that separates the meat from other parts of a chicken, you are mistaken. Unfortunately, the machine that processes meats smash everything together, including bones, head, eyes and guts. Frozen chickens aren’t thawed anymore; instead, they are thrown straight into the machine to be completely smashed.
Maybe you are wondering why the inside of your nuggets isn’t pink. Instead, it looks white, just like chicken-breast meat.
The whole process of smashing and grinding the chicken allows bacteria to infest on the ingredient. With this, the smashed chicken will be washed and soaked in ammonia, which will make it taste unpleasant. To make the grounded product tasty, it will be re-flavoured synthetically. And what about the color? Oh well, what does artificial colouring do if not used as a dye?
Why not? You can always make one at home using free-range chicken and pure chicken-breast meat.
Cooking at home helps you save money. Well, it helps you save more than eating at McDonalds. Furthermore, it ensures that the food preparation is safe and healthy. You don’t want to risk your loved ones eating poison, do you?
