All kids love chicken nuggets. Unfortunately, the choices offered to a health-smart parent out there are pretty slim. KFC or Mc Donald’s – HUM – Well may be there is a third way homemade chicken nuggets? You get a tastier and healthier meal that can be enjoyed by the whole family. The recipe is so easy that you can even do it with the kids adding to the fun. I bet they will not offer that at KFC or Mc Do.
For sure, anything homemade from scratch would definitely taste better and be healthier. you have also the added bonus of freezing the leftovers for later use—well then you got a winning recipe for kids and adults alike. Now you have your own home stock of healthy chicken nuggets that you just heat for a nutritious and delicious meal that everyone will love.
To get the best from your prep work, have some whole wheat breadcrumbs ready. Store them in a freezer for easy use and access. For the chicken nuggets, you need to cook them first. Then you need to layer them on wax paper and place them in a food storage box or any other freeze safe container.
1. Chop the chicken breast into small nugget sized chunks, then season with salt and pepper.
2. Beat the egg in a shallow bowl
3. in another separate shallow bowl whisk together with a fork the breadcrumbs, cheese, paprika, and garlic powder.
4. Now for the breading. Separate the use of both of your hands. One hand is the wet hand and the other is the dry hand. The wet hand gets the chicken nuggets and puts them in the egg bowl. Your wet hand will pick up the chicken then place it on the bowl with the breadcrumb mixture. Flip it over to make sure that the nuggets are well covered. Then using your dry hand place the coated chicken on a separate plate.
5. Heat the oil in medium sized sauce pan. Just use enough oil that can cover the diameter if the pan. Use medium heat.
6. Cook the nuggets for a couple of minutes per side until they are golden brown. The best way to verify if they are well cooked is to slice these nuggets in the middle.
7. Drain the oil from the cooked nuggets in a plate with paper towels.
8. Best served with home made salsa or mayonnaise if you really cannot avoid it.
Then you should freeze the leftovers for future use!
