Among various recipes for a DIY mask: Coconut oil is a Must Use ingredient. Coconut oil has long been known for its moisturizing properties. Dull, dry skin will be a thing of the past as coconut oil will rejuvenate our skin to its youthful glow.
The nutrients in coconut oil have numerous skin virtues:
Lauric and Capric Acid – antimicrobial and antiviral. Fights acne bacteria.
Capricylic Acid – anti oxidant; good for oily, sensitive skin.
Vitamin C – promotes collagen production to fight premature ageing.
Vitamin E – strengthens the skin to avoid wrinkles and skin sagging.
MCFA (Medium Chain Fatty Acids) – maintains skin’s pH balance to avoid infection, bacteria and acne.
MCT (Medium chain Triglycerides) – removes dirt and oil that causes acne by penetrating deep skin pores.
The small molecular structures of Coconut oil makes it easy to seep into skin pores to soften from within.
Honey – moisturizer and hydrating agent. Antibacterial, antiseptic and inflammatory properties fight acne and exfoliates the skin.
Lemon Juice – antibacterial properties kills acne causing bacteria. Natural Astringent and tightens skin.
For the Face Mask you will need :
Coconut oil, 1 tablespoon
Raw honey, 2 teaspoons
Half a teaspoon of lemon juice
Mix all the ingredients in a bowl and apply a thick coating on your clean face. Leave it on for 10 minutes then rinse with cold water.
To avoid skin irritations, use only natural, organic extra virgin coconut oil and raw honey. Try it on your skin first to check for irritations before using thoroughly on your face.
A coconut oil and turmeric combination produces a good anti acne face mask, both have anti-inflammatory properties to avoid or reduce skin irritations. Banana hydrates your skin.
Turmeric – has anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and antibacterial properties to fight off skin irritations, brightens the skin and fights skin ageing.
For your DIY mask you will need :
Mix in the coconut oil and turmeric with a mashed up banana and apply a coating of the mixture on your clean face. Leave on for 15 minutes then rinse with cool water.
Choose overripe bananas as they are easier to mash.
To remove turmeric stains, use lemon juice and a nailbrush and scrub gently for about a minute.
A combination of coconut oil, nutmeg and avocado is great for skin hydration and prevents skin breakouts.
Nutmeg – exfoliates skin cells
Avocado – fights free radicals that causes premature skin ageing, antioxidant and hydrates the skin.
For the DIY mask, you will need :
Mash up a ripe avocado into a smooth paste. Mix in the coconut oil and nutmeg. Apply on your skin in a circular motion and leave on for 15 minutes. Rinse with cool water or use a warm washcloth to peel off.
Tips for this DIY mask:
This facemask can also be applied on the hands, neck cleavage and legs. Use ripe avocados for easy mashing. Do not use too much nutmeg as it might irritate your skin.
Coconut can also be applied on its own directly onto clean skin, leave for 15 min then rinse with cold water and a dash of apple cider vinegar.
Choose a good quality virgin coconut oil.
