School can get tougher for your child as the pedagogy of learning continues to upgrade, if not take a sharp reform. Some parents worry that they might push their child to the limits; some are concerned that their children may not be able to cope with tougher educational curriculum, like fractions and algebra for 5-year olds. You can always prepare them for the challenges ahead. You can help them become smarter.
1 Never allow your children to leave home without eating breakfast. For their morning food, feed them with protein. High-protein foods can feed their grey cells that help boost their Intelligence Quotient (IQ). The researchers from the University College London Institute of Child Health have found out that a diet rich in protein can increase the size of the brain’s caudate nucleus – a feature in the brain that is linked to higher intelligence. With a protein-rich breakfast, your children will stay more alert because it lowers the brain chemical serotonin levels. The usual breakfast we serve them like cereals are processed carbohydrates that make them drowsy as they encourage serotonin production. Instead, you can feed them healthy cereals like muesli, which you only need to add peanuts for protein. You can also make a smoothie for breakfast with tofu or yogurt for a protein-packed breakfast. Eating breakfast should be non-negotiable.
2 Make sure their diet contains healthy hues – green, red, yellow and orange. This means that you have to feed them with fruits and vegetables represented by these colours. Be sure that there is balance in the food that they eat to complete the daily nutritional requirement needed for a healthier and brighter tot. Give them a whole food supplement with proven results, such as Juice plus which contains minerals and vitamins from 27 berries, fruits and vegetables.
3 Throw away all dental fluoride. Fluoride is a neurotoxin that gathers in the brain tissue, affecting brain development. Sadly, we are far greater exposed to fluoride than any other heavy metal because we purposely consume products that contain it like food, water and dental products. According to Harvard, it is confirmed through studies that the high levels of fluoride in water radically lower the IQ of our children, exacerbating learning difficulties. To lessen your children’s exposure to fluoride, ditch away your dental products, like toothpaste, that has fluoride in it. You can teach them to use dental floss or an electric toothbrush if you are worried about their dental health.
4 Feed your children with good fats. The omega-3 fatty acids top the list of healthy fats, and you can get this from fish oils, which contain docosahexaenoic acid or DHA and cicosapentaenoic acid or EPA. Both the DHA and EPA provide superior health benefits, making them more superior than flaxseed oils. The best version, a little more expensive, much more bio-available and safer being Krill Oil. Ample research validates that taking fish oil supplements can intensely accelerate learning. At the same time, fish oils can protect your children’s growing brain from the bad effects of junk food. To include enough fish oils in your children’s diet, you have to serve them fish 3 times a day. Include ample flaxseed and purslane into the diet if your children are vegetarian. When supplementing, Dr. Leo Galland, the author of Superimmunity for Kids, recommend the following dosages:
Fish oil supplements can lower your blood levels of vitamin E and other fat-soluble vitamins like vitamin A. To counteract this consequence, supplement your children with 100 IU of vitamin E.
5 Let them play under the sunshine for at least 15 minutes. Do not underestimate the health benefits of vitamin D from the sun. Vitamin D is essential for health and development of the nervous system, including the brain. Spending more time indoors and using too much sunscreen are seen to be one of the culprits of absolute vitamin deficiency, which causes unhealthy bones, rickets and high blood pressure. According to Michal Melamed, a researcher from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Yeshiva University, it is advisable to chuck your children out under the sun for 15-20 minutes. Do not apply sunscreen yet until they’ve been out in the sun for 10 minutes.
6 Avoid exposure to mercury and other metals. Modern research discovered a link between levels of mercury in the hair of a mother at the time she’s giving birth and the probability of the child developing ADHD. According to a study, for every 1 mcg/g of mercury sample from a mother’s hair, a child is 1.4 times likely to be distracted and 1.8 times likely to be manic by the age of 8. Like fluoride and any other heavy metals, the aluminum sulphate found in the water supply has also been discovered to cause brain damages.
To avoid further exposure to mercury and other heavy metals, you have to:
7. Encourage your children to meditate. Meditation perpetually boosts brain receptivity. Several studies have already prove this claim and more further studies have verified the effect of meditation on people’s ability to respond to repetitive stimuli like clicks and light flashes. Normally, a person gets used to clicks after a while, so the brain switches off and it stop reacting. But with meditators, studies show that their brains continue to respond to stimuli, which indicates heightened perception of each moment. Aside from increased mental facility, meditation also seems to assimilate cognitive and emotional processes, abetting intuitive learning.
Do not hesitate to give children whole supplement. At OHM, we just love Krill oil, Vitamin D3 and Juice plus, which contains 27 fruits berries and vegetables which allows kids to bridge the gap between what they should eat and are actually eating.
